Our Summer Interns Say Farewell

As summer winds down, we say farewell to our wonderful interns, Ashlyn and Laura, who spent their summer at The Event Lounge, experiencing all the event industry has to offer. From planning and executing Alison’s wedding, to working their first corporate conference, these ladies saw every side of the event planning world, and handled it like pros! We can’t wait to see the amazing things these girls do over the course of their careers, and we’re so glad we were able to watch them grow, learn, and fall in love with the event planning industry.

Keep reading to see what Ashlyn and Laura are taking away from their summer at The Event Lounge!

This summer as an intern for The Event Lounge has been amazing! I’ve learned so many things from name badges, flower arrangements, and bridesmaid baskets to RFPs, BEO’s, and lots of excel sheets. We experienced a wedding from set up to tear down and it’s amazing to see how fast paced everything is as well as how beautifully it comes together. We also worked eWomenNetwork and saw how an actual conference functions behind the scenes and how much work it takes.

Going to the wedding was one of the best learning opportunities for me as I followed around an amazing woman named Linda who taught me all about flowers, linens, and chair positions. I’ll always thank her for the phrase “the chairs need to kiss the table” (basically meaning placed right at the edge instead of under the table). For eWomenNetwork, I was put in charge of décor and, as it’s probably my favorite part of event planning, I had so much fun and learned more than I could have imagined.

You can only learn so much from sitting in a desk at school and being told what someone has experienced. Actually being in the field, being a part of it, seeing how much work it really takes is something I will be eternally grateful for. It has been a jam-packed past few months and I’m so thankful for all the experiences I’ve been a part of.

I cannot believe that my last week at TEL has come! This summer has flown by because of how fun it’s been. Going into my internship, I knew that when it comes to event planning, only so much can be learned in a classroom. I’m a firm believer in learning from experiences, and The Event Lounge provided me those experiences. I have gotten to play with floral arrangements, I mastered all things Excel, read over BEOs, and a whole lot more.

I think one of the biggest highlights of my internship was getting to take the reins as the head of registration for eWomenNetwork. This was a big job considering registration lasted for the entire duration of the conference. I had to make executive decisions, set up and strike each evening, and keep count of all the attendees. Even though it was a lot of hard work, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working my first big conference. I met a lot of cool people and bonded with my fellow TEL staff, which was super fun.

This summer has been insanely busy, but it was all so worth it. I can honestly say that I had no idea how much behind the scenes work went into an event from start to finish. It gave me a whole new level of appreciation for event planners and all they do. I’ll forever be grateful to The Event Lounge staff for everything they’ve taught me, and for just being so awesome!

Thank you for all of your hard work this summer, ladies! We can’t wait to see you again soon!
